Extremely technical, showing our form as a hollow case. I was shown this video by my Dad around a week ago and I was in awe at the special effects, how the connections between the background and placement of clothing aligned so well within the environment. Put a dancer in a warehouse, let them take there place. Then add the trick that makes her 'wide open'. You've now got a simple but detailed, rich piece of art.

Full of sexual signs, innuendos and saucy imagery. I first witnessed this video nearing the end of my second year of college, I instantly feel in love with the cinematography, I find it empowering.

A journey of two people. Different train of thoughts. A story of two people fixated together in their own little world (due to the colour co-ordinated outfits and the Overall for me it's a positive song showing that people can sadly part ways. At the start of a relationship we can become so fixated on ourselves as two, that we forget about our surrounding. We don't notice what anyone else is doing, it's like wearing rose tinted glasses. Just a matter of time until someone takes them off.

A couple of weeks ago

As I sat down in the living room one evening with Dad, I turned on the TV.

As soon as I turned it on, it lay on BBC Two.

The programme titled 'Imagine... Summer 2016: 2. DANGER! Cornelia Parker' appeared

I didn't know what the programme was about at first but I quickly became intrigued.

Cornelia Parker, her name ran a bell. It wasn't until one of her pieces popped up on screen, I finally knew who she was and what she's created.

'Cold Dark Matter: An Explosive View: 1991'

I first came across this during my time in college. I guess this subconsciously helped navigate my interest towards the art I'm interested in today, art that submerges into their environment. I love how it spreads out touching all four walls including ceiling and floor, it has no end or beginning and although the piece fills the room, the viewer is still able to explore throughout. This is what I love, being able to connect and emerge your body into a piece of art.

Recently I have been finding it hard to conjure up new ideas for the following units. After the motivation and overload of ideas coming from the last ones, starting fresh has been a challenge for me.

For example Final Major Project. Having the freedom to choose what I want to express and create was harder than I thought. The process of creating the brief was difficult and frustrating. My mind was swimming with potential ideas and excitement that I just couldn't convert into words. 

The feeling of being unsettled and unmotivated worries me.

Hopefully it's just a phase.

This was the beginning of a potential post I started writing before breaking up for study week. Looking back on this has made me realise that feeling this way isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just a different take on the creative process. 

Usually when I start a selection of units I instantly get bombarded with ideas on what I'm going to be producing, which does limit the room for development and new ideas. You can be too fixated on a certain route that you don't allow any questions and wonders to take place. 

Over the past couple of months I've been trying to get ready for future education while also wanting to produce the best units I can. Hoping that they will be the cherry on top of a fantastic course.

I've started to realise where I am in my life at this moment. I have the ability to decide where I want to go next but it's not step in stone, unlike the years of school. The uncertainty of the future, what this year holds is frightening but exciting. Knowing that two words, yes or no will either open or close the gate to my hoped destinations. Of course there's other routes to take and just because a place has said no, doesn't mean you can't try next year! 

Having this week off of college has given me time to reflect on these units and allow myself to naturally spark ideas whether it be while tidying up, having breakfast or ponding over things while in lying in bed.

For the past couple of weeks I've felt like I've been forcing inspiration and motivation. The outcome of that was getting even more frustrated while sitting there staring blankly at an empty sketchbook, just hoping something will appear! 

Within this week off I've filmed a couple of videos. While filming throughout the day I gathered the footage up to create a simplified version of a day.

Comparison Between Two Lens

Location Photography has given me an insight to what you're able to create with the help and guidance of a camera. Within this unit I have discovered the use of cinemagraphs aka Flixels, the use of minute movement deep within a 'photo'graph.

Yesterday I found myself taking photographs of the sunset, from my window. I sat and thought "this is stupid, I shouldn't be doing this inside, I should venture outside and see what else is out there!". I quickly gathered the camera, the tripod, my sketchbook, drawing equipment and took off before it got dark.

For Location photography we've been told to write a post comparing two photographers or styles. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to compare the wonders that is Flixel to still photography. This could be about how photography has changed today, there's so much more you can do with a photograph nowadays. For this post I'm going to focus on a clip of footage I captured. Comparing the footage to a thumbnail of the clip.

Here is two photographs I took that evening. Firstly taking a photograph of my chosen subject, after that I decide to take a short video. Of course some film footage won't be any use to Flixel due to the lack of a steady hand but that's where the videos come in, still being able to use the waste of a jittery footage for something else.

While on my Flixel profile I noticed a variety of public albums, albums in which people have uploaded their cinemagraphs. Some under the hash tag of black and white, flixel adverts, portrait, wedding and travel/transport.  Plain, simple and still photograph. Still being able to see and imagine the bird in motion but it's one moment captured in time.

Converted into a Flixel. Being able to see the bird in full motion, seeing it's flight pattern, the true direction it's taken. Seeing the truth of what was in front of me.

Even the most smallest of movement can make a significant difference. Being able to see what's beyond the photograph 'through the wall', what the photographer was experiencing at that moment in time. 

Since the majority of my sketchbook is based around fashion/portrait photography I thought it would benefit with a contrast of Photographs I took.

To roll off this post nicely I've added a video of all the footage I captured since it's become a tradition to create short films from an event, small or big.

 

New Year "New Me"

Last night I created some new resolutions for me to tackle this year. One of them being more organised which could include keeping up to date on my blog. In other words it should.

 I enjoy writing on my blog, keeping a little diary of my thoughts, what I'm up to and what I've discovered. So why don't I do it more often? I could tell you I'm not a procrastinator but I would be lying. 

I don't like to rush the posts I create, I like to have time to sit down, relax and spill out my thoughts while linking pictures/flixels/videos and making sure the composition is correct.

Since deciding to borrow the Canon camera over the holidays, I've gathered a fair amount of videos and images considering Location Photography. As I just finished writing, I just remembered that I need to compare two photographers. I will get to that! Either today/tonight or tomorrow!

Every time I've had the opportunity to go out I took my bag, packed it with my fine liner and tin of pencils, my sketchbook for Drawing from Observation and the camera. Whether it would be a walk down the street or a trip up to Edinburgh or Glasgow. I'd be capturing moments whether it was in Spoons or sitting on the train.

I would love to purchase one of these camera's as it has benefitted my work immensely, whether through film, photography or flixels. There's nothing better than capturing a great piece of footage or taking a half decent photograph and looking forward to going home to edit and use within your work.

My brother Jamie and I ventured up to Glasgow on Saturday 27th. I haven't been up to Glasgow for about three years so I thought it would be a great opportunity to explore, create little pieces along the way and see The Glasgow School of Art building. As we were walking to the passport office I was clutching onto the camera around my neck. As I was walking along I was eyeing down the pavement thinking "I better not fall, I better not fall". About five minutes later I fell. I fell but my first reaction was to safe the camera (which is completely fine). It was the most pathetic fall but it was bloody sore. I ended up having to walk around with a bloody rip in my tights with a bloody knee, until I ended in the toilets of Nando's. 

It was my lovely little last trip (no pun intended) of 2014.

Chance At Video Editing

On Wednesday after traveling on the bus home I decided to document my journey from the bus to my house via video. In my spare time I love to sit down, relax and watch/catch up on some of my subscriptions on YouTube. One of my favourite things to watch is people's daily vlogs. I love the fact that you're able to have an insight into someone else's life, someone who you've probably never met and lives miles away. It does give me comfort seeing how other people live their life, as weird as it may sound but it makes me think "Oh, I can achieve/do that too if I try!" or "Oh! I can relate to that!".

One of my favourites is The Sacconejolys. I discovered them back in early 2012 and have been hooked ever since. At the time I started watching them they were just married, had two dogs, were living in Cork and were waiting on the arrival of their baby girl Emilia. I have just finished watching their vlog for today and they now live outside London, with their six dogs, six month old baby boy Eduardo and two year old girl Emilia. Through those two years they've never failed to upload a video of their day which amazes me! I love the idea of recording everyday of your life, seeing the subtle changes. It's been amazing seeing the whole of Emilia and Euduardo's life so far, seeing their firsts and just seeing them grow up day by day. Also how their making a living from documenting their life amazes me! 

I remember back in 2012 I commented on one of their videos saying something along the lines of "Your life looks amazing, I wish mine was like yours" (looking back I totally disagree with what I wrote! There's no point wishing for someone else's life!). He then replied with something like "Don't worry, everything is better in the future!" which did give me some sort of hope. I can understand why some people get annoyed at people who expose their life on social media,  when people start thinking 'who cares what they do'. I can say I do agree on that.

I'm starting to go off the topic of this post but it's one of the small reasons why I actually decided to create this video. I've got to admit that in the past I've tried to create videos but I just ended up never uploaded them due to being too scared, so I decided to give it another go. Last night I uploaded the footage and started editing it on Youtube. It was around 3:50 minutes long but since the music was at a specific length I tried to cut it down as much as I could so no parts of the video were hanging off at the end. I love the idea of vlogging but the fact that it attracts attention holding a camera to your face constantly does frighten me a bit, especially when I'm surrounded by people I recognize from places etc. After writing that sentence I've started to think about what Niall told me in the one-to-one meeting yesterday. Him telling me to just do it, whatever you've started doing, you've started it for a reason and obviously because you want to so why dilute it to fit in to be accepted by other people. I just need to have belief in myself with the things I create so without further ado here it is.
