#IAMSORRY

Last night I decided to watch a video of Shia LaBeouf's art installation titled #IAMSORRY which was held in Los Angeles last year. The installation consisted of Shia wearing a tuxedo with a brown paper bag over his head with the words "I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE" written in black marker. Sitting motionless at a table, staring out into the blue with his hand placed on the table crying, no talking. The installation consisted of the public coming in one at a time and sitting down opposite Shia for a one on one experience. I've watched a couple of peoples videos him with different stories to tell. The first one I watched was this which is a pretty basic explanation of what the installation experience was like. 


I believe people are entitled to their own opinion but I felt like Hal didn't respect what Shia was expressing, I felt like he made a mockery of the scene. The question is what was he expressing? When my brother told me about this he thought it was an attention seeking stunt, he thought it was silly of Shia.

Of course the paper bag speaks for itself. 

For me I think it's about Shia expressing to people that he's still a human being that's still full emotion, the general public sees celebrities as these high end people who are living the dream who apparently have no reason to feel sorrow and despair, since they can have anything and everything they desire. I disagree. This installation speaks volume. The second video I watched made me understand the point of this whole installation. It showed me that even though Shia didn't speak a word, their was still some from of commution going on through body language. He sat and listened and took in what the person opposite was telling him. According to the man that visited the installation, Shia hummed, shook his head. He was also laughing, smiling occasionally as they both communicated. 

"I haven't had a conversation with somebody like that, I haven't even had a conversation like that with someone who's not in my family, someone who's not related to me, I've never talked to somebody like that"

At the end of the guys session with Shia, Shia got up abruptly and hugged him, hugged him tight. 

"I hope all of you get to express something like that because that was crazy"

Everyones experience was new from the last person, the people who responded badly to Shia to the people who poured their heart out to him, they were also the reason for this installation, they are a part of it. 

The video is quite long but it gives you another viewpoint from this experience.

Comparison Between Two Lens

Location Photography has given me an insight to what you're able to create with the help and guidance of a camera. Within this unit I have discovered the use of cinemagraphs aka Flixels, the use of minute movement deep within a 'photo'graph.

Yesterday I found myself taking photographs of the sunset, from my window. I sat and thought "this is stupid, I shouldn't be doing this inside, I should venture outside and see what else is out there!". I quickly gathered the camera, the tripod, my sketchbook, drawing equipment and took off before it got dark.

For Location photography we've been told to write a post comparing two photographers or styles. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to compare the wonders that is Flixel to still photography. This could be about how photography has changed today, there's so much more you can do with a photograph nowadays. For this post I'm going to focus on a clip of footage I captured. Comparing the footage to a thumbnail of the clip.

Here is two photographs I took that evening. Firstly taking a photograph of my chosen subject, after that I decide to take a short video. Of course some film footage won't be any use to Flixel due to the lack of a steady hand but that's where the videos come in, still being able to use the waste of a jittery footage for something else.

While on my Flixel profile I noticed a variety of public albums, albums in which people have uploaded their cinemagraphs. Some under the hash tag of black and white, flixel adverts, portrait, wedding and travel/transport.  Plain, simple and still photograph. Still being able to see and imagine the bird in motion but it's one moment captured in time.

Converted into a Flixel. Being able to see the bird in full motion, seeing it's flight pattern, the true direction it's taken. Seeing the truth of what was in front of me.


Even the most smallest of movement can make a significant difference. Being able to see what's beyond the photograph 'through the wall', what the photographer was experiencing at that moment in time. 

Since the majority of my sketchbook is based around fashion/portrait photography I thought it would benefit with a contrast of Photographs I took.





To roll off this post nicely I've added a video of all the footage I captured since it's become a tradition to create short films from an event, small or big.

New Year "New Me"

Last night I created some new resolutions for me to tackle this year. One of them being more organised which could include keeping up to date on my blog. In other words it should.

 I enjoy writing on my blog, keeping a little diary of my thoughts, what I'm up to and what I've discovered. So why don't I do it more often? I could tell you I'm not a procrastinator but I would be lying. 
I don't like to rush the posts I create, I like to have time to sit down, relax and spill out my thoughts while linking pictures/flixels/videos and making sure the composition is correct.

Since deciding to borrow the Canon camera over the holidays, I've gathered a fair amount of videos and images considering Location Photography. As I just finished writing, I just remembered that I need to compare two photographers. I will get to that! Either today/tonight or tomorrow!

Every time I've had the opportunity to go out I took my bag, packed it with my fine liner and tin of pencils, my sketchbook for Drawing from Observation and the camera. Whether it would be a walk down the street or a trip up to Edinburgh or Glasgow. I'd be capturing moments whether it was in Spoons or sitting on the train.

I would love to purchase one of these camera's as it has benefitted my work immensely, whether through film, photography or flixels. There's nothing better than capturing a great piece of footage or taking a half decent photograph and looking forward to going home to edit and use within your work.

My brother Jamie and I ventured up to Glasgow on Saturday 27th. I haven't been up to Glasgow for about three years so I thought it would be a great opportunity to explore, create little pieces along the way and see The Glasgow School of Art building. As we were walking to the passport office I was clutching onto the camera around my neck. As I was walking along I was eyeing down the pavement thinking "I better not fall, I better not fall". About five minutes later I fell. I fell but my first reaction was to safe the camera (which is completely fine). It was the most pathetic fall but it was bloody sore. I ended up having to walk around with a bloody rip in my tights with a bloody knee, until I ended in the toilets of Nando's. 

It was my lovely little last trip (no pun intended) of 2014.


Glasgow is a beautiful city
